As wireless communication devices such as those used in home automation became more prevalent, and interconnectivity between those devices became more highly desired – there became a need for a common protocol that was utilised by many different suppliers rather than a magnitude of proprietary systems. The Zigbee 3.0 protocol was ratified by over 300 manufacturers, technology firms, OEMs and service companies who combined form the Zigbee Alliance. Zigbee 3.0 was devised to be a secure and reliable easily implemented wireless data solution that ensures interoperability across different brands.

Zigbee is ideal for domestic situations due to its easy setup, but it is also primed for commercial use as it can transmit data even in dense RF environments where other communication protocols may experience reduced functionality due to interference.

Zigbee 3.0 supports the ability for compatible products to interconnect so that the network can expand beyond the range of the central hub/gateway/bridge. This is ideal for large homes, offices or other industrial settings.

Zigbee mesh occurs automatically – simply follow the pairing instructions included with each product and they will mesh if needed. If you have any issues please refer to our Zigbee troubleshooting guide.
